About

A campaign for Australians who want the chance other generations had.

A business, a few shares, a bit of money put away. The Government decided to tax that harder. We want it fixed.

What happened.

For more than 25 years, if you built a business or saved into shares and held them for more than a year, you paid tax on only half the profit when you sold. In the May Budget the Government scrapped it. From 1 July 2027, when you sell, it takes at least 30 cents of every dollar of profit above inflation, whatever you earn. It covers businesses, shares, managed funds and almost everything else people build or save into.

And they are not finished. The next bill is in Parliament right now. A 30 per cent minimum tax on the income of family trusts, from July 2028. It has not passed. And that is before the cost of restructuring, which runs to thousands in accountants and lawyers, sometimes a lot more.

It went through both houses within seven weeks of the Budget, with two days of hearings. Most Australians still do not know what was done to them. Our job is to explain it plainly.

Your pay is income. Your savings are money you already paid tax on and then put at risk. Now they want to tax it again when it grows.

What we are asking for.

  • Take every business out of the new tax.
  • Take out everyday investors.
  • Drop the family trust tax while it is still in Parliament.

We are not asking the Government to tear up its Budget. We are asking it to fix the part that punishes people for having a go. It is not about who is in government. It is about who changes it.

How we are going about it.

  • In person. Events around the country, starting in Sydney and Brisbane.
  • Online. In people's feeds every day, in plain language.
  • The stories. The apprentice, the couple saving a deposit, the builder, the retiree. Real people, in their own words.
  • Every MP asked where they stand.

The facts, from the legislation

What actually changes on 1 July 2027

The discount goes

50 per cent discount replaced by indexation

For individuals and trusts, the 50 per cent capital gains discount is replaced by cost base indexation for gains that accrue from 1 July 2027. Treasury Laws Amendment (Tax Reform No. 1) Act 2026.

The floor

A 30 per cent minimum tax on the gain

Whatever your marginal rate, the real gain is taxed at no less than 30 per cent. It lands hardest on retirees and lower earners the indexation was supposed to protect.

Nothing is grandfathered

Assets you already own are caught

Anything held across 1 July 2027 is split. The gain before that date keeps the discount. Everything after it gets indexation and the 30 per cent floor.

Who gets a carve-out

New builds and some start-ups

Investors in new residential dwellings keep a choice. A 50 per cent discount for investors in start-ups Canberra deems innovative is in a Bill before Parliament. Everyone else is not.

Still proposed

The trust tax

A 30 per cent minimum tax on discretionary trusts is in a Bill before the House, to start 1 July 2028. It has not passed. It can still be stopped.

What we say about it

About the policy. Never the person.

We will ridicule a bad policy all day. We do not attack people. A member of any party can back this, and we will thank them in public when they do.
